Dictation for writers on Mac
Many writers find a first draft flows more freely when spoken. WhisprDesk turns your voice into text at the cursor in any text field where you can paste, so you can draft in the app you already use and edit the result the way you always do.
Draft in the app you already use
Click into your document, press the hotkey, and speak a paragraph. Press it again to stop, and the text appears where your cursor was. There is no separate editor to learn and nothing to export.
Choose Tap mode to press once to start and once to stop, or Hold mode to speak while the key is held. Tap is the default.
Names, places and invented words
Characters, places and made-up terms are the words dictation most often misses. Add them to the Dictionary to help Whisper and cloud models recognize them. Auto-learn from corrections is on by default: when you fix a word in the app you pasted into, WhisprDesk adds it to the Dictionary on your Mac. The Dictionary does not apply to NVIDIA Parakeet.
Tidy-up when you want it
AI cleanup is optional. When it is on, it fixes punctuation and small errors while keeping your voice, then pastes the result. You can also use the Notes area to keep rough thoughts and run an AI action such as Generate Notes on them. You choose whether the AI model is local or a cloud provider using your own key.
Your drafts stay yours
Where your voice goes depends on the engine you choose. With a local model (NVIDIA Parakeet is about 680 MB), transcription runs on your Mac and your audio is not uploaded. With a cloud provider, your audio goes directly to the provider whose key you entered. WhisprDesk does not receive it either way.
Audio is not saved by default. Transcripts of dictation are kept in History on your Mac unless you change the Data Retention setting.
