WHISPR Desk

Dictating into documents and web forms on Mac

WhisprDesk is not tied to one app. It pastes your spoken text into whichever field has focus, so it works in documents, browser-based editors and web forms: any text field where you can paste.

How the text gets there

When you finish speaking, WhisprDesk puts the text on your clipboard and sends a paste keystroke, trying once more if the first attempt does not land. By default it then restores your previous clipboard contents. It needs the Accessibility permission in macOS.

If Accessibility is off, the text stays on the clipboard so you can press Cmd+V yourself.

What it works with

Any field that accepts a normal paste: a word processor, a browser-based document, a form, a chat box, a search field. We do not test or promise every app, and an app that blocks paste may block WhisprDesk too. Some secure fields, such as password boxes, block automatic insertion.

If a paste does not land

Open Home / History in the WhisprDesk window and copy the dictation again with Copy text. The Troubleshooting page covers the common causes, such as a missing Accessibility permission or the Globe key opening the emoji picker.

Frequently asked questions

Is it an integration with my document app?
No. It works by pasting, so it works anywhere you can paste. It is not a plug-in for any particular app.
Does it change my clipboard?
It briefly uses the clipboard to insert text and then restores the previous plain-text clipboard contents.
Does it work in password fields?
Some secure fields block automatic pasting.
