Writing by voice on Mac instead of typing
Some people prefer to speak rather than type, for comfort or for convenience. WhisprDesk lets you write by voice on a Mac using a single key, with the text appearing at your cursor in any text field where you can paste.
A single key to start and stop
The default is the Globe key. In Tap mode you press it once to start and once to stop; in Hold mode you hold it while you speak. You can choose a different key in Settings > Hotkeys. WhisprDesk has no wake word, so you always start it with the key.
Text goes where your cursor is
You do not have to change how you work. Click into the text field you are using and speak. This works in any text field where you can paste. Some secure fields, such as password boxes, can block it, and it needs the Accessibility permission in macOS.
Review before you send
Dictation can mishear words. Read what was inserted and correct it. WhisprDesk can learn from your corrections: when you fix a word in the app you pasted into, it adds it to your Dictionary on your Mac, which helps Whisper and cloud models next time.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I use it completely hands-free?
- No. You start dictation with a key press. There is no wake word.
- Why does it ask for the Accessibility permission?
- So it can paste the text into the app you are typing in. Without it, the text is copied and you paste it yourself with Cmd+V.
- Is it accurate?
- We do not publish accuracy figures. Check what it types, especially names and numbers.
